I give Pakistan its due status at ICC: Sethi

LAHORE - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has said that he did his best to give Pakistan its due status at the forum of International Cricket Council (ICC) and now Pakistan will earn ample revenue in coming years due to its international commitments.
"As PCB chairman, I put in my best efforts to make sure that Pakistan gets its due status in the ICC as far as revenue generation is concerned and its future cricket ties are concerned,” he was speaking at a reception hosted in his honour by the former Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) president Khawaja Nadee Ahmad here on Thursday night. Also present there were PCB management committee member Shakeel Sheikh, NCA director Haroon Rahseed, former LCCA treasurer Sarfraz Ahmad and clubs organisers from all the three zones of the LCCA.
Sethi said he was leaving the PCB contended and on a satisfactory note as the future of the country was fully secured in terms of revenue generation from its future tour programme in next eight years. "When I took over, the PCB was nowhere at the forum of the ICC and the formation of BIG-3 put a question mark on the future of our international cricket but we made resolute efforts to make the ICC realise that Pakistan is an important cricket playing member country and its due rights and share should be given to it in a dignified manner,” he added. "I am leaving with good memories as the things are in order in the PCB and its most of the problems have been resolved and I anticipate a bright future of Pakistan cricket in coming years,” he added.
He said he was delighted to see a big gathering of club cricket organisers who were united at one platform for the cause of grassroots cricket in Lahore. He praised the efforts of former LCCA chief Kh Nadeem for the revival and overall development of the club cricket during his three-year tenure.  In his address of welcome, Kh Nadeem re-counted the efforts and services of Najam Sethi for the betterment of Pakistan cricket especially at international level.
"It was Sethi’s wisdom and expertise which re-established Pakistan’s status at the ICC. He is the man of his words because when he took over as PCB chairman, he made it clear at that time that he would not be contesting the election of the PCB chairman as he does not have the intention to stay longer." Nadeem said the presence of clubs organisers from East, West and North Zones of LCCA at the reception proved that they were together and united at one platform for the development of club cricket.  Speaking at the occasion, Shakeel Sheikh praised the efforts of Najam Sethi for Pakistan cricket. "We have seen a significant rise in Pakistan cricket despite that sour reality that the PCB faced a lot of problems due to which our cricket suffered a lot but Sethi lifted the PCB out of gloom and helped Pakistan get its due status at the ICC,” he said.
