CNS Amateur Golf Championship starts tomorrow

LAHORE - The 5th Chief of Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship will explode into action from tomorrow (Friday) with promising golfers of the country exhibiting their prowess in the premier activity here at Royal Palm Golf Course.
Speaking at a press briefing here at the Royal Palm, Pakistan Navy Commodore SM Shahzad, along with Royal Palm general manager Omer Mir, director golf Col (R) Jameel Khalid and director media Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed, said: “Pakistan Navy realises the importance of promoting sports like golf and hence considers holding and supporting a championship of this status an essential component of the whole process.”
He has said that a combined cohesive effort has been put in to make sure that the players spend memorable and delightful moments during the days of the competition and the competitors, who will take part in the championship, are supported in their effort to produce rounds of quality.
In this regards, Omer Mir of Royal Palm said: “The organising team has ensured the Royal Palm golf course has all the ingredients like remarkable fairways, sterling greens, most admirable and commendable environment and multi-allied heartwarming facilities.”
Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed highlighted that as far as the amateur golfers in the men's category were concerned, only the skilled ones had been allowed to compete and the enabler was that the entrant must have a handicap of 12 and below.
Col Jameel highlighted that the events at stake were seniors event, ladies event, juniors event and the prime event for amateurs. “As for the seniors event, it is for participants in the age bracket 55 years and above and having a handicap of 14 and below. Defending champion is Javed A Khan of Lahore Gymkhana. Ladies event is open to ladies with a handicap of 30 and below where Ghazala Yasmin (Garrison) is defending champion. Juniors’ event is open to juniors below 18 years of age having handicap 24 and below and defending champion is Ali Anish (Gujranwala Golf Club). The main event is for amateurs with a handicap of 12 and below. Defending champion is Ghazanafar Mehmood (Garden City Bahria Golf Club).”
