LAHORE - Argentina will take on Brazil in the opener of the 10th FIP World Polo Championship which rolls into action today (Friday) in Santiago, Chile.
Earlier, due to a deluge rainstorm, the world championships have been delayed. Though according to forecast, good weather is expected from Friday onward and it is assumed the weather does not cause more disruptions. According to new schedule, the opening match will be played between Argentina and Brazil at 11pm Pakistani time and the second between Chile and England at 1am.
On Saturday, first USA will vie against Argentina at 11pm, then Pakistan face England in the second match of the day at 1am. Sunday will see USA clashing against Brazil at 11pm and the hosts Chile will play against Pakistan at 1am. Monday will be rest day and in the semi-finals, top teams of each group will vie for getting berth in the finals, which will be played on Wednesday (April 1).
Pool A consists of hosts Chile, England and Pakistan while Pool B comprises Argentina, United States and Brazil. The Polo World Championship is a 14-goal mega event and every participant has to enter their 14-goal team for the matches.
The 14-goal Pakistan squad includes captain Saqib Khan Khakwani (4 goal), Ahmed Tiwana (4 goal), Sami Ullah (4 goal) and Bilal Haye (2 goal). Shah Qubulai Alam is coach and Abdul Qadir Khan Mamdot team manager.
