Waseem defends his World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title

SEOUL: Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem successfully defended his World Boxing Council (WBC) silver flyweight title after defeating Philippines’ Giemel Magramo in Seoul, South Korea on Sunday.

Known as ‘Falcon Khan’ for his swift boxing style, the 28-year-old outplayed Magramo 3-0 in a tough 12-round fight.

It should be noted that Waseem had earlier said that Magramo was a tough opponent to beat and was expected a good fight from him. Waseem said that he became physically and mentally fit after acquiring special training for the fight.

The boxer described boxing as a sport which is impossible to play without spending money on coaches and physical fitness.

Waseem is living in Las Vegas since turning into a professional where he has been training in the training centre of renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather.

He is being trained by Jeff Mayweather, uncle of Floyd Mayweather.

The Quetta-born boxer put a dent on Magramo’s record who was undefeated in his previous 17 bouts (13 knockouts) and previously held the WBC International flyweight belt.

Waseem, Pakistan’s first professional boxer, had won the WBC silver flyweight title in July 2014 after defeating favourite Jether Oliva from the Philippines. He is the first South Asian boxer to win the boxing title.
