Barkat lifts National Jr Tennis titles
LAHORE - Barkat Ullah clinched the boys’ U-18 boys singles and doubles titles in the 1st ZTBL National Ranking Junior Tennis Championship 2016 which concluded here at the PLTA tennis courts on Wednesday. In the boys’ U-18 singles final, Barkat Ullah outclassed Yousaf Khan to lift the title while in the boys’ U-18 doubles, Barkat Ullah patterning with Asad Ullah defeated the pair of Saqib Umer and Yousaf Khan. In the girls’ U-18 final, Maheen Aftab overwhelmed Noor Malik to lift the title. In boys’ U-14 final, M Shoaib routed Hamza Bin Rehan while in the boys’ U-12 Abdul Hanan Khan thumped Faizan Fayyaz and in boys’ U-10 final, Hamza Roman outlasted Hamid Israr. In the end, chief guests ZTBL president Syed Talat Mahmood and SBP Director General Zulfiqar Ghumman gave away prizes to the winners.–Staff Reporter
Samir enters ITF $25000 Futures main round
LAHORE - Pakistan Davis Cupper Samir Iftikhar Wednesday qualified for the ITF $25000 Futures main round after defeating Bruman Jacob of USA at Broadway Tennis Center, Burlingame, California. Samir staged magnificent come back to beat the experienced American opponent 2-6, 7-5, 5-2 retired. Jacob started the match at high pace and won the first set 6-2. Samir then bounced back in style and won the second set 7-5. In the third set, when Samir was set to win the match at 5-2, Jacob retired and gave away the victory to Pakistani lad. Samir, who lost his hard earned world ranking point due to inability to defend in absence of no financial support by the government and the PTF. Samir will now meet Hampstead Benjamin of Denmark in the first round to earn his world ranking points again.–Staff Reporter
Three matches decided in Polo in Pink
LAHORE - Three more matches decided in the Polo in Pink Happy Cow Cheese Tournament being played here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground. In the first match played on Wednesday, Diamond Paints outlasted Envogue by 6-4. Fir Diamond Paints, Mir Huzaifa was top scorer as he slammed three goals while Mian Khurram pumped in two. For Envogue, three goals came from Taimur Mawaz Khan. In the second match of the day, Sherwood taught a polo lesson to Olympia by beating them 9-3. For the winning side, Ahmad Zubair played superb polo and contributed fantastic five goals in his team’s triumph. In the third and last match of the day, Adessio carved out impressive 6-3 victory against Master Paints. Korean Ambassador Jr Taekwondo begins
ISLAMABAD - The 11th Korean Ambassador Junior National Taekwondo Championship 2016 (U-15 & U-17) started here at Liaquat Gymnasium, Pakistan Sports Complex on Wednesday. Talking to The Nation, Pakistan Taekwondo Federation (PTF) president Lt Col (R) Wasim Ahmed Janjua said: “It was for the very first time that a record number of 34 teams from provinces, departments, services, Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK, Islamabad and clubs are participating in the event, which is being sponsored by Korean Embassy, Islamabad along with other co-sponsors.” Afghanistan Taekwondo Association (ATA) secretary Khiraja Hashual Ullah Rasa and Aga Ajmal were the guests of honour at the inaugural day of the competitions. In the U-17 female Khyrogi U-46kg weight category, Sitara Tahir of Gilgit-Baltistan won gold, Safina Noor of KP silver and Humira Naz of Railways bronze. In U-49kg weight category, Areeba of Sindh A won gold, Samiya of Gilgit-Baltistan silver and Sofia of Railways bronze. In U-15 Khyrogi U-29 weight category, Swera of Sindh won gold, Bushra of Gilgit-Baltistan silver and Mahnoor of Sindh B bronze. In 33kg weight category, Sahifa of Sindh A won gold, Nimra of Punjab Aston won silver and Sundas Haider of Gilgit-Baltistan bronze. In U-37kg weight category, Laiba of KP-A won gold, Manam of TKD lover Central Punjab silver and Hira Safdar of Gilgit-Baltistan bronze.
