LAHORE - The physical fitness tests of 10 cricketers were conducted by a panel of doctors and coaches here at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Thursday. The players who underwent tests were Harris Sohail, Sohaib Maqsood, Raza Hassan, Nasir Jamshaid, M Irfan, Zulfiqar Babar, Sharjeel Khan, Usman Qadir while Shahid Afridi and Abdur Rehman were tested on Wednesday. Haris Sohail, who suffered an ankle injury earlier this year, and Raza Hasan, who had major surgery on his spine, are back in contention along with Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad. Umar was also seen with the wicketkeeping gloves along with coach Dav Whatmore which means he may be selected as the wicketkeeper in the squad. M Irfan and Nasir Jamshed were also asked to undertake fitness tests. Top-order batsmen Sohaib Maqsood from Multan, Sharjeel Khan from Hyderabad, left-arm spinners Zulfiqar Babar, Abdur Rehman and leg spinner Usman Qadir featured in a three-hour fitness test. The physical tests which the players underwent were flexibility test (sit and reach), explosive power (vertical jump), upper body strength (pushups), core stability test (prone bridging and lateral bridging), speed and agility test and cardiovascular fitness test (bleep test).
