Honesty costs PCB employee

LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director Vigilance and Security Ehsan Sadiq handed his own subordinate to police for showing him the pictures of the cops who were sleeping during the duty. The honesty cost PCB’s assistant security officer M Safdar when he tried to prove efficient and pointed out security lapses to the high-ups during the Faysal Bank National T20 Super Eight Cricket Cup. Safdar, while doing his duty, found some policemen sleeping so he took their pictures and showed to his officer in order to point out the negligence of the cops. Instead of appreciating him for his sincere effort, Ehsan called the Liberty police and handed him to them who brought him to the police station.

When PCB high ups heard this news from various news channels, they immediately contacted the concerned police station and asked them to release their employee immediately. After this incident, Safdar was not seen in the PCB premises and his mobile number was also switched off. Though this issue could be resolved within the board premises without handing over the board employee to the Liberty police yet he did not favour the board’s employee rather tried to make the police happy. This act of director earned a bad name for the cricket board. When the media men asked the director regarding this issue, he said: “Safdar is an incompetent officer that is why we took the necessary action against him and handed him over to police.”

Though such negligence can cost Pakistan dearly as the country has already been suffering a lot regarding international isolation and no country is ready to come to Pakistan and play a cricket series here over security reasons, but the PCB director security thought otherwise. When there is a dire need of holding local and national events in trend-setting manners in order to present a soft image of the country, such incidents create bad image of the country. PCB chief Zaka Ashraf should look into the matter and take stern actions against those who are trying to harm his great cause of bringing international cricket back to the country for which he has been endeavoring since he took charge as a PCB chief and his sincere efforts show he will succeed in getting his aim. But the minor mistakes on part of the PCB employees can harm his high aims so he must take notice of the entire situation and give punishment to those who found guilty.
