Hewitt named Australia Davis Cup captain
MELBOURNE - Retiring veteran Lleyton Hewitt was Tuesday appointed Australia's new Davis Cup captain, succeeding interim skipper Wally Masur. The 34-year-old, who is calling it quits after his 20th consecutive Australian Open in January, has been positioned for the role since Pat Rafter stepped down. He follows in the footsteps of other Australian greats including Neale Fraser, John Newcombe and Rafter, and becomes the youngest skipper since World War II. "I've been fortunate enough to work under some of the greatest Davis Cup captains in history," Hewitt said. "For me, it's about instilling my experience in these younger guys." A veteran of 40 ties over a record 17 years' service, Hewitt will lead young guns including Bernard Tomic, Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis. –AFP

LAHORE - The training camp of Pakistan women’s A cricket team for Sri Lanka tour will commence from October 29 to November 12 here at Country Club Muridke. PCB women selection committee Tuesday announced 25 women players for the training camp of Pakistan women’s A cricket team, which will tour to Sri Lanka to play three one-dayers and three Twenty20 matches from November 12 to 24 against Sri Lanka women’s A team. The final team will be announced after the training camp. UBL take good start in QAT match
ISLAMABAD - United Bank scored 165-2 in 56.5 overs against Islamabad on the second day of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2015-16 round one Pool-A match here at Diamond Ground Tuesday. The first day's play was washed out due to heavy downpour. Saeed Bin Nasir was unbeaten at the crease after scoring 70, while Umair Khan was unbeaten at 60. Junaid Nadir and Hamza Nadeem took one wicket apiece. In Pool-B match played at Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi made 221-8 in 78 overs. Sohail Tanvir made 43, Naved Yasin 38 and Talha Qureshi unbeaten 32. M Abbas took 3-34 and Sadaf Hussain 2-43. Earlier, no play was possible on the inaugural day due to heavy rain. Earlier, KRL won the toss and opted to field first. Shabbir on top in President Golf
ISLAMABAD – Pakistan No 1 M Shabbir Iqbal of Islamabad Golf Club (IGC) was leading with 133 gross at the end of second day in professional category of the President Gold Medal Golf Championship here at Islamabad Golf Club. M Munir (IGC) was second with gross 136 and M Tariq (ICG) was third with gross 140. Gulrez Shahid was on top in amateur category with gross 38 while M Rehman was second with 79 and M Umer Khokhar third with 82. The event will conclude today (Wednesday). President Mamnoon Hussain had to grace the occasion as chief guest but due to devastating earthquake that struck the South Asia region on October 26 and the tragedy that befallen Pakistanis, he would be unable to attend the ceremony.
