Some hair-raising tales from Euro Cup 2016

Most jolly

David Alaba
Austria

Alaba’s gone for the Odell Beckham look, but as a fade?—?not a mohawk. It’s also a popular one the NBA circuit, as seen on the heads of Allen Crabbe, Marcus Smart and Jared Sullinger. Sadly, it looks just as cool across the Atlantic. It also featured in our “Best Short Hairstyles for Summer,” so you know it’s good.

Most boring

Dmitri Torbinski
Russia

Russian ultras may have ran riot in Marseille, critically
injuring three England fans in the process, but this little mite never hurt anybody. How could he? Nobody would take the Russian
midfielder seriously with those puppy dog eyes and that classic Dumb and Dumber SS16 bowl cut fringe.

Most bizarre

Aaron Ramsey
Wales

Part Bond villain, part Slim Shady, Aaron Ramsey’s peroxide blonde number is the sole reason for Wales’ success so far in the tournament. No idea what he was thinking, but who cares when it looks this ridiculous?

The Beards

Joe Ledley
wales

Chris Coleman has been desperate to get Joe Ledley fighting fight for Euro
2016, and with the size and depth of that bushy beard it is little wonder.

Paul Pogba
France

Predictably for a man who once had his own name shaved into the side of his head, Paul Pogba has returned from the barbers sporting another top cut. The right-hand side of his short clean do is dyed yellow in the style of the Gallic rooster, which features on the French badge.

Stephan El Shaarawy
Italy

Italian midfielder Shaarawy has shown great ingenuity this year as he kicks off the “Porcupine” trend which will surely be seen on runways for years to come. But seriously, how tall is his hair? It reminds me of the rough on some disparate links golf course; he’ll jump up for a header and the opposition’s defense will have to spend 10 minutes searching for the ball. Quite clever, really.

Radja Nainggolan
Belgium

Shaved back and sides,
a sweeping blonde mohawk on top, and sprawling neck tattoos. He looks like he’d be more at home outside the stadium getting into fights with opposition fans and making problematic arm gestures, so in a way, he perfectly encapsulates the entire tournament so far. Well played.

Sergio Ramos
Spain

Maturing like a fine wine, Sergio Ramos has added
a finely sculpted beard
to his increasingly
impressive CV as he aims to add a third European Championship to his haul.

Maroune Fellaini
Belgium

Marouane Fellaini's afro has been a familiar sight in English football since his move to Everton in 2008, but the Manchester United midfielder has changed it up for Euro 2016 with his frizzy locks receiving the blonde-dye treatment.

Roman Zozulya
Ukraine

Now we shouldn’t be too harsh here – alopecia could affect any of us, after all – but there’s nothing broken that can’t be fixed. I mean he looks pretty tough, like the kind of guy that turns up to play amateur football on a Sunday morning still reeking of booze and cigarettes before proceeding to kick everybody up in the air, teammates and all.

Marek Hamsik
Slovakia

Is that the impressive Slovakian attacking midfielder Marek Hamsik? Or is that Johnny Depp suffering from some weird post-divorce identity crisis? Either way, a greasy punk mohawk paired with thin, round spectacles is a winner. Just give the Slovakian the trophy already.

Aron Gunnarsson
iceland

A veteran of English football since arriving on these shores in 2008, Cardiff midfielder Aron Gunnarsson will look the part with his fine facial hair as he leads Iceland.

Ivan Perisic
Croatia

Paul Pogba has now been replaced as King Of Football's Crazy Hair - by Croatia's Ivan Perisic. One of the stars of Euro 2016 so far, the Inter Milan winger has prepared for his country's Last 16 showdown against Portugal with a trip to the barber. And tHIS is the wonderfully patriotic result.

Gerath Bale
WALES

Gareth Bale of Wales flaunts a man bun (mun) to keep his long hairs in check. If you play sports and have long hair, there is very little option to keep your hair out of your way other than a man bun but equally ridiculous.

Ricardo Quaresma
Portugal

The Portugal player’s
head was influential
in sending his team to quarter-finals. But other than the header, his trimmed with unique hairstyle and awkward tattoos gives quite a
weirder look.

IArda Turan
Turkey

PAfter a season of sitting on the Barcelona bench Arda Turan has had little football to occupy himself. Just as well the Turkey captain has kept the grizzled look from his Atletico Madrid days for the tournament.
