Samir shines for US varsity

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's pride Davis Cupper and US scholar athlete Samir Iftikhar came back strongly after recovering from wrist injury and rose to occasion with nail biting important victories in singles and doubles as 44 ranked University of New Mexico men's tennis team took down the Fresno State University Bulldogs 4-2, allowing the Lobos to tally their first Mountain West victory of the season. The match started with some intense doubles action in front of huge home crowd where Saimir and his partner Mitchell McDaniels took on Youssef Hassan and Euan McIntosh for the decider, the match came down to a lengthy tiebreaker where Samir and McDaniels eventually won 13-11 to clinch the important point for UNM.–Staff Reporter 
Davis Cupper Tayyab Iftikhar, father of Samir while talking to The Nation on Saturday further said, it was a tense battle in the singles, as Samir was left on the court against Kartik Nakireddi in the no 1 spot and fierce battle was witnessed amongst the conference giants with long base line rallies and Samir went on to clinch the win for UNM with close scores of 7-5, 7-5. The UNM   not have much time to rest, as they will be flying out to Las Vegas to take on University of Nevada in another MW match today (Sunday).
