KARACHI (APP) - Chief Selector Hanif Khan said on Monday that if Pakistan team showed improvement in defence and the forwards displayed good finishing they have good chances of winning the Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) being held in China from September 3. We must improve in marking and clearing in defence and forwards should top finishing inside the circle for better results, he told APP in interview here on the eve of teams departure. Olympic Hanif Khan was optimistic that new-look Pakistan team having youth and experience in their fold will put up good show in the inaugural competition. This is a tough event but team has the capacity to win the title if they played to their potential, he commented. However he admitted that Pakistan team was weak in some areas under local or foreign coaches. Performances of the youngsters in the event will give us an idea, what is future of Pakistan hockey, he maintained. He said the outcome or results will not be important. But we would like to see how team fares in matches, he added. Hanif Khan said if youngsters played to the expectations of the nation and selector, it will be good omen for hockey and for next years London Olympics. He said future of the seniors depends on the performance of the youngsters. We as selectors looking forward a consistent performance from the team which can bring better results, he pointed out. Six top Asian nations including Asian Games Champion Pakistan, silver medallist Malaysia, India, Korea, Japan and host China are taking part in the newly launched event being staged at the Chinese city of Ordos from September 3 to 11.
