ISLAMABAD Wapda, gold medallist in 2006 and silver medallist in 2005 and 2008, forced their way into the quarter-finals of the sixth National Women Football Championship on Friday at huge Jinnah Stadium, Aabpara, Islamabad. They thrashed Balochistan 3-0 on Friday morning. The scheduled match between two was declared abandoned by the technical officials on Thursday following heavy rain that made the pitch unplayable for all of second half after Wapda led 1-0 at interval. That goal was scored by skilful player Nadia Bhatti who represented Pakistan in the 11th South Asian Games at Dhaka earlier this year and was gold medallist for Young Rising Star in 2008 edition. However, Nadia failed to hit the net in the replay as their other three goal scorers were Naila Rani (18th min), Shabana Kausar (26th min) and Azra Nasir (58th min) as Wapda joined Islamabad, Diya FC, Frontier College Peshawar in the quarter-final. Wapda, under coach Qasim Raza and skipper Anila Khan, dominated the proceeding right from the kick off and their keeper Shumaila Sattar was too smart for all the attacks of provincial team. Saturday (July 31) fixtures: Balochistan v Young Rising Star (5pm, Jinnah Stadium), Sindh v HEC (5:30pm, Ground No2).
