LAHORE - Pakistan middle-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood has vowed to make a strong comeback to the national team.
“I have tried my best to overcome my weakness and improve my game and skills. If I won’t be selected for England ODI series, then, that’s alright. I recognise why I am out of the team. Whenever I will make a comeback, I will do it strongly and cement my position as a permanent member. Rest is on the selectors,” Sohaib said this while in an interview with cricera.com.
“During Ramadan cricket event in Karachi, I played a lot of cricket and improved my shots. Observing that, my injuries have played a vast part in my career, but now I am fully fit and I am feeling my whole force with me and ready to excel for national team,” he said.
Sohaib, who was recently included in the High Performance Camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA) Lahore, said the selectors were aware of his potential and had kept him in his future plans. “It is really encouraging to hear from the selectors that I am in their future plans because when a player is discarded, his confidence is low and such assurances help a lot,” he added.
Speaking about Pakistan Super league (PSL), Sohaib said: “The PSL was very important for Pakistan and it would certainly help the country in finding and grooming a good number of talented crickets. Although I couldn’t get a prospect to take on all the matches, yet I managed to play two. But our team Lahore Qalandars didn’t play well. Something was actually lacking, I believe, our bowling was really faint. This time, we will bounce back and prove our mettle.”
About his most memorable match, he said: “The Asia Cup 2014 match against India was the most memorable match of my career. Not because of my batting, but that magical innings from Shahid Afridi, as when he played that last shot for six, we were just running towards the ground and feelings are still unexplainable.”
About his all-time favourite player, Sohaib said: “Jacques Kallis is truly a legend, a great star and my all-time favourite player. I was playing for Pakistan A and hit him for 3 fours in an over and also took his wicket while I was bowling.”
“I desire to be a permanent member of team Pakistan. My optics are on the upcoming domestic season, where I have to do and make a comeback strongly. I do not believe in wishing rather I believe on hard work and this is what I have been doing,” Sohaib concluded.
