Simple & Chic … Sanam Chaudhri

Fabulous and tremendous fashion designer Sanam Chaudhri started her label in 2009. Giving new dimensions to the prêt line she garnered attention for her designs in a very short period of time. Chaudhri label represents modern woman of the society who values premium quality clothes. She makes things fun and flirty with her whimsical fashion aesthetics and mesmerizing blend of cultures. She does prêt & luxury pret and her clothes have always a chic style.Although her focus is prêt but Sanam has delved successfully into western wear.  She is always inspired by the things and people around her. The talented designer is also the ChairPerson of FPW and soon she will be ruling the fashion industry. In an interview with Sunday Plus talked to the Sanam about her design philosophy, inspiration and much more.

Q: You joined fashion industry few years ago; tell us how your entire journey starts? 

My journey starts in 2009. I stock my collection at Labels. In the season when I started stocking, first Fashion Pakistan Week took place and I was offered to showcase my collection.

Q: What inspired you to choose this profession?

I am a textile major so I think it had to be happened at some time. Designing was always on the cards.

Q: What does the Sanam Chaudri’s brand stand for?

My brand stands for minimalism. It’s for modern woman.

 Q: When you start working on a subject, how do you decide the design and the colours?

It’s not only a cut out process. It just happened when you are inspired by something. My inspiration comes from the people around me and my surroundings but mainly it’s the woman around me, my family, friends and clients.

Q: What is the driving force behind your success?

It’s my determination and humanity.

Q: What is your design philosophy?

Less is more

Q: As a fashion designer yourself, do you find it harder to buy clothes designed by other people?

No, if I like some one’s design I pick it up. I never had any issue with others designed clothes.

Q: How do you face criticism?

I always take it in a positive way and mind. I look at it constructively.

Q: Tell us about your personal style

I like to accessories my clothes. I don’t like things to be over the top. I have a very simple chic style. 

Q: What are the three signs of beauty for you in a woman?

Strength, humanity and nurturing.

Q: What's your style statement for an elegant girl?

If she is elegant, she will carry Sanam Chaudri label very well because my brand stands for chic and elegances.

Q: What is one change that you want to see in prêt clothing in Pakistan?

I think we are going on the right track right now so I don’t want to see any change in prêt.

Q: What challenges you had to face as the chairperson of FPW council?

I don’t have to face any challenges.

Q: Can you name some reigning trends for 2014, as far as what’s hot in colours, fabrics and cuts that ladies should be looking out for this summer?

I have put a lot of white colour along with blue and yellow and silhouette with pants.

Q: What projects are in your pipeline?

I am working on autumn luxury prêt line some project I will be reveling soon.

Q: With so much competition in the market, how does one manage to stay in business?

To stay true to themselves and try to create original.

Q: What are your favourite colours and your favourite colour combination?

I don’t have any particular favourite colour combination. It depends on my mood. Move is the one colour that I don’t wear.

Q: What would you like to say about Pakistani couture?

Couture does not exist in Pakistan. No one knows about it here. In Pakistan there is luxury prêt and bridal wear but bridal wear is not couture. I doing prefer prêt and luxury prêt. I do bridal wears only on orders.

Q: Who is your favourite local and international designer?

I like Maheen Khan, Bunto Kazmi. I aslo love Gulaboo and Daman.

Q: What are those things which you cannot tolerate on ramp?

I don’t like model chewing gum, bad catwalk and posture.
