SIALKOT - Chaudhry Ameer Hussain, a former National Assembly speaker, and his son Barrister Asif Raza have submitted their nomination forms for contesting 2013 general elections from the same constituency - NA 113 Bajwat, Sialkot-II.

From the constituency, Ameer Hussain has been elected as MNA for five times but in 2008 general elections, the PML-Q backed candidate was knocked out with a majority of votes by PPP’s Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.

Now, Chaudhry Ameer Hussain is testing his political fortune by bringing his son with him and vowing to give hard times to the PPP’s candidate with the help of his son. They are seeking PTI tickets from the constituency. Talking to the newsmen, Ameer said that they were hopeful to be awarded the PTI ticket. In case, the PTI leadership does not award him (Ameer) ticket, he will contest the election as an independent candidate. He said that his son Asif Raza might get the PTI ticket from NA-111 Bajwat, Sialkot-II.

After submitting their nomination papers, they have geared up their electioneering by holding corner meetings and even going door-to-door in their native constituency. About one and half years ago, Chaudhry Ameer Hussain joined the PTI after quitting the PML-Q and is now intending to contest 2013 general elections from the PTI platform.

However, the local leadership of PTI said that the provincial leadership had not yet given any green signal to Chaudhry Ameer Hussain regarding the awarding of ticket.

Ameer Hussain may be in a strong position to contest election from his native constituency as an independent candidate.

He will face again PPP’s Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and PML-N’s Idrees Ahmed Bajwa in NA-111. On the other side, the PPP is enjoying political hold in the constituency as Firdous Ashiq is in very strong position. This was the only seat which PPP had won in Sialkot district’s all the five national assembly seats during 2008 general elections.
