LAHORE – Dacoits on Sunday hit the provincial metropolis for 37 times and made off with cash, gold ornaments and other valuables worth millions of rupees besides five cars and 10 motorcycles from different parts of the city, police sources claimed.

Armed bandits continued their looting spree in the city, robbed residences, looted families, motorists, passersby and snatched away millions at gunpoint as the police failed to nab the bandits throughout the day.

Five gunmen walked into the house of Usman Ahmed in the Gujjarpura police precincts and made off with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs800000 after holding the inmates’ hostage at gunpoint.

Four robbers equipped with automatic weapons barged into the house of Muhammad Shahid in the Chuhng police area and took away cash and gold ornaments worth Rs600000 at gunpoint.

In another house robbery, armed bandits forced their entry into the house of Muhammad Hassan in the Township police limits. The robbers confined all the family members in one of the rooms, locked it from outside and escaped after collecting cash and gold ornaments worth Rs500000. The police are investigating.

Gunmen riding on motorcycles also looted families at gunpoint during road robberies in the Iqbal Town, North Cantonment, Liaqatabad, and Shadbagh police precincts and snatched away cash and valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees at gunpoint.

Robbers stopped two motorcyclists, Nisar and Noor Ahmed, in the Faisal Town and Lytton Road police limits respectively and deprived them of their motorcycles, cellular phones and wallets, containing thousands of rupees.

Unidentified motorcyclists also robbed Ahsan and Hamayun at gunpoint in the Muslim Town and Ichhra police areas respectively and snatched away mobile phones and Rs250000 from them.

Armed bandits riding on motorcycles also stopped motorists and a passersby in the Millat Park, Sundar, Johar Town, Nawan Kot, Manga Mandi, Lower Mall, Civil Lines, Shalimar, Nishtar Colony, and Wahdat Colony police limits. The victims were deprived of cash and valuables worth tens of thousands of rupees at gunpoint.

Meanwhile, five cars were stolen away from Gulberg, Ravi Road, North Cantonment, Nawab Town and Raiwind police areas. At least 10 motorcycles were either snatched or stolen away from Mughalpura, Akbari Gate, Lower Mall, Manga Mandi, Faisal Town, Garhi Shahu, Civil Lines, Gowalmandi, Garden Town and Kot Lakhpat police precincts. The police are investigating.
