DROs offices remain crowded on last day

KARACHI (Agencies) - The offices of District Returning Officers (DROs) in the metropolis remained crowded throughout Sunday as it was the last day for submission of the nomination forms.
The election candidates, from different political, religious parties and independents alongwith their supporters came to the offices of returning officers (ROs) at the city courts and Malir courts for submitting their nomination papers for contesting 20 National Assembly and 42 Sindh Assembly seats of Karachi.
The first phase of pre-election process was completed in a peaceful atmosphere and no untoward incident was reported except some minor complaints in this regard.
 The NA-250 constituency has become an important focus of political parties as some big personalities submitted nomination papers for this seat.
The NA-250 constituency covers the posh areas Defence, Clifton, Saddar, Lucky Star, Civil Lines, Gizri and Zamzama, where a number of noted industrialists, retired army officers and politician are residing.
All Pakistan Muslim League Chief General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf, Ex-nazim Karachi Niamatullah Khan, Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Khushbakht Shujaat, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s Kamran Tissori, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s Arif Alvi, Pakistan Muslim League (N) Saleem Zia and Pakistan People Party Rashid Rabbani have submitted their nomination papers for NA-250.
It may be noted that in general election 2008, MQM candidate Khushbakht Shujaat had won the election on this seat by a close margin against PPP candidate Mirza Ikhtiar Baig.
The Election Commission of Pakistan will start scrutiny of the nomination papers from Monday. 
Meanwhile,  lawyers of Sindh Bar Council decided not to allow former military dictator Pervez Musharraf in the premises of city court today.
All Pakistan Muslim League chief Musharraf is to file his application in the city court today for scrutiny.
As per media reports, the SBC announced that lawyers have unanimously planned to boycott all the activity of court on Monday (April 1).
Earlier on Friday, lawyers community protested Musharraf’s appearance in the court and an angry protester threw shoe towards him.
