Earth Hour ‘is celebrated every year on the last Saturday of the month of March, all lights will be switched off for an hour to observe the Earth Hour and to show interest in saving electricity. Earth Hour has always been more than just about lights off, it’s about people from all walks of life coming together throughout the year to show what they can do to protect the planet says Andy Ridley the CEO and co-founder of Earth Hour from the movement’s home in Singapore. World Earth Hour 2014 would be observed across the globe including Pakistan on Saturday with its theme “Be a superhero for your planet” and to bring this theme to life.
People around the world will have to turn off all non-essential lights to raise awareness of environmental challenges and garner support for sustainable initiatives as a symbol of their commitment to earth and its environment. Pakistani Parliament celebrated the event by arranging a candle light ceremony on Saturday, March 29, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time. Speaker National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq said, while celebrating Earth Hour 2014, “Pakistan is facing electricity problem that’s why National Assembly is thinking of using polar energy to save electricity and reduce pollution.” Darkness will fall over the earth in a revolving wave when millions of people will celebrate, turning off lights in their offices, homes and institutions according to their own timetable. Earth Hour movement is organized by WWF to mobilize public support for planetary protection.
