ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has launched special traffic checking drive in the city in the wake of complaints received from commuters regarding overcharging, non-completion of routes and misbehaving with the commuters on the public service routes. It was decided in the meeting that a special drive be launched to ensure the compliance of traffic rules, especially by the public service vehicles. The Deputy Commissioner has asked the officials to immediately attend the public complaints and on the spot action should be taken against the violators of traffic rules. Meanwhile, Secretary of ITA Asia Gul during traffic checking drive on various public routes impounded five public service vehicles, which were plying without route permits and have had extra seats beyond the required capacity. She also issued warning to 50 PSVs to remove the extra seats from the vehicles within three days failing which necessary action will be initiated against them. She also checked the fitness certificates of vehicles and challaned the defaulters without fitness certificates. During checking, some commuters also complained about the non-completion of route and overcharging by the transporters, taking notice of complaints, she imposed fines amounting to Rs 31,400 on 14 vehicles and issued waring to the offenders. Secretary of ITA Asia Gul also directed the traffic police to ensure physical fitness of vehicles and take action against those having extra seats and indulging in overloading and inconvenience to the commuters on various routes. 127 outlaws held, valuables recovered in last 8 months Capital police during crackdowns have arrested 127 accused involved in snatching of vehicles and mobile phones and recovered 15 cars, two motorcycles and 104 snatched mobile phones from their possession during current year. According to details, on the special directives of SSP Tahir Alam Khan, City Circle Police arrested 12 accused and recovered eight snatched mobile phones, two cars and two motorcycles from their possession. Likewise, Margalla Circle Police arrested 17 accused and recovered 31 snatched mobile phones and five cars from their possession and net cash. Saddar Circle Police arrested 21 accused and recovered 11 snatched mobile phones, two cars & one truck from their possession. Similarly, Secretariat Circle Police arrested five accused and recovered six snatched mobile phones and one car from their possession. Industrial Area Circle Police arrested 42 accused and recovered 30 snatched mobile phones and two cars from their possession. Shahzad Town Circle Police arrested 20 accused and recovered 13 snatched mobile phones, 2 cars from their possession. Rural Circle police arrested 10 accused and recovered five snatched mobile phones and one car from their possession. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Binyameen and SSP Tahir Alam Khan have directed all SPs and SDPOs to further step up their performance and professional capabilities in detecting crimes and eliminate the criminal activities from the city.
