'Is Pakistan still a big picture?

Fourth trilateral meeting of Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United States will take place in the Federal Capital on Tuesday. The US point-man for Afghanistan and Pakistan (AfPak) Marc Grossman and US envoy to Kabul will be representing the United States at the three-way conference. Afghanistan will be represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Jawid Lodin while Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, according to official statements, will be heading Pakistans team. Representatives of military and intelligence of the three countries will participate in the meeting. This announcement has several meanings. What I have learnt so far, participants will be transacting their share of knowledge, which they have gathered through their direct or indirect communications with those Taliban groups favouring peace and want their part of share in power during the withdrawal of US-led NATO forces. The US, so far, does not want its troops to be caught off the hook by Taliban at any stage. That remains a fear of the US. Pakistan being Non-NATO ally of the US is expected to play a major role as the history of USPakistan relations was once defined as one of the Roller Coaster. But from post-Raymond Davis affair to May 2 unilateral Osama operation by the US, created a big gulf between Islamabad and Washington DC. At the level of CIA, Pakistan was held either complicit or incompetent whereas US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at the US State Department stated that cooperation with Pakistan helped us to trace bin Laden and the compound in which he was hiding. President Obama also said during his announcement of the raid that US counterterrorism cooperation with Pakistan helped lead US to bin Laden and the compound where he was hiding. According to a Pakistani intelligence official, raw phone-tap data had been transferred to the US without being analysed by Pakistan. While the US was concentrating on this information since September 2010, information regarding bin Laden and the compounds inhabitants had 'slipped from Pakistans 'radar over the months. Bin Laden left an invisible footprint and he had not been contacting other militant networks. It was noted that much focus had been placed on a courier entering and leaving the compound. The transfer of intelligence to the US was a regular occurrence according to the official, who also stated regarding the raid that I think they came in undetected and went out the same day, and Pakistan did not believe that US personnel were present in the area before the special operation was carried out. Americans got to know himwhere he was firstand thats why they struck it and struck it precisely. Husain Haqqani, Pakistani Ambassador to the US, had said that Pakistan would have pursued bin Laden had the intelligence of his location existed with them and Pakistan was very glad that our American partners did. They had superior intelligence, superior technology, and we are grateful to them. One can here make out who is speaking on behalf of total facts or half-baked truth. Hillary Clinton or Mr Hussain Haqqani. Numerous allegations were made that the government of Pakistan was involved in shielding bin Laden. We must not and should not totally blame the US for kind of mistrust created to distance Islamabad from the Washington DC. Pakistans functionaries placed the blame on Islamabad resulting in blockade of US military assistance to Pakistan. At whose signal Ambassador Haqqani made the statement. Ambassador Haqqanis statement came ahead of Republicans victory in the House of Representatives. Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, outnumbered Democrats on Obama Administrations 14.3 trillion dollars debt default forcing President Obama for a compromise formula. With four days remaining until the United States hits its debt limit, US president Barack Obama told deeply divided Republicans and Democrats to stop bickering and find a way out of this mess. Obama said a deficit-reduction plan being advanced by the top Republican in Congress would be defeated in the Democratic-led Senate and was wasting time. He called for compromise and said both parties were not that far apart on spending cuts. There are plenty of ways out of this mess but we are almost out of time, Mr Obama said, warning the countrys top-notch triple-A credit was at risk. The United States will be unable to borrow money to pay its bills if Congress does not raise the debt limit by August 2. That could result in an unprecedented default that could push the already fragile economy back into recession.
