LAYYAH-Mian Nawaz Sharif Hospital, though completed in 2009, has not yet been made functional due to huge corruption, found a report presented by the Chief Minister Inquiry Team (CMIT).
The CMIT unearthed massive irregularities in Mian Nawaz Sharif Hospital especially regarding purchasing of machinery.
Following media reports, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had paid a surprising visit to MNS Hospital and directed CMIT to probe the issue and expose the corrupt health officers.
The CMIT report identifies that the Purchase Committee purchased equipment 600 times costlier thatn market price.
It purchased three ECG machines, dental unit, oxygen cylinder, auto clave machine, diathermy machine, air conditioners, section machine, a 100-KV generator and other machinery at higher rates than the market price, it was revealed in the report. The CMIT also identified that equipment purchased was defective and substandard.
The CMIT report said that 12 officers deployed in Layyah during the completion of hospital including three executive district officers (EDOs) are responsible for irregularities and mega corruption.
Following the inquiry report, Dr Sajad Sarwar and MS Aqeel Khanzada are being suspended. However, EDO Dr Mukhtiar Hussain has been appointed as Director General Health Punjab. All the other 12 corrupt officers are continuing their jobs.
LAYYAH HOSPITAL GETS 3 AMBULANCES: The Punjab government has provided three ambulances for District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital of Layyah.
The ambulances have specifically been designed for heart patients equipped with cardiac monitor, oxygen cylinder, oxygen sensor, BP apparatus, ETT tube and other required equipment.
District Coordination Officer Syed Wajid Ali Shah handed over the keys of the ambulances to Medical Superintendent Ghulam Akbar Bhatti. EDO Health Ziaul Hassan briefed the DCO about ambulances. The EDO said that all cardiac emergency facilitation is provided for cardiac emergency. In heart attack condition, required apparatus is available to restore the heart beat. The EDO said that the driver, ambulance care assistant, emergency medical technician, nurse and paramedics have been given training to run the cardiac ambulance.
Talking to the media, the DCO said that Punjab government was taking all steps to facilitate the patients. The three latest ambulances provided for the District Hospital Layyah are gift for residents of Layyah. Cardiac ambulances are in place of mobile hospital, the DCO added.
The MS said that cardiac ambulances have key role to facilitate cardiac patients in emergency.
Patients Umar, Toufeeq Ahmad, Allah Bux and other said that the ambulances will be very helpful during emergency. They demanded that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should take steps to functionalise the trauma centre Fetehpour.
