ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and disgruntled Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ch Nisar Ali Khan dined at the same café Monday evening, raising speculation about the timing of their brief encounter that occurred on the eve of the election for the interim prime minister.

Both leaders briefly chatted at ‘Aylanto’ in the upscale F-7 neighborhood of the capital, a staffer of the newly opened café confirmed to the Nation.

Imran Khan was already having dinner along with Amin Gandapur and Salman Ahmed when the former interior minister arrived there. Nisar exchanged pleasantries with the PTI leader as he passed by his table.

After finishing his dinner at a separate table in the main hall, Ch Nisar again briefly spoke with Imran as he was leaving the café, the restaurant staff confirmed. Mr. Khan was having dinner in the courtyard of the fashionable restaurant.

The meeting, which was described as “accidental” by PTI leadership, spurred widespread speculation. Many wondered whether the meeting was some kind of political signaling by the former interior minister. Ch Nisar has been denying rumors that he plans to quit the ruling party. He has, however, stressed that would not be part of the cabinet of the interim prime minister owing to the differences with top party leadership.
