The Accountability Court on Wednesday heard a corruption reference against former finance minister and leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), Ishaq Dar, related to owning assets beyond means.

Ishaq Dar, a former senator PML-N leader, has been in London since October 2017 on medical grounds but, he has been declared an absconder in the corruption case against him.

The Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case. As the hearing went under way, the prosecution presented its second witness, Ishtiaq Ahmed, to record their statement.

Afterwards, another prosecution witness Wasif Hussain's statement was recorded. The latter was posted in the Cabinet Division.

Hussain informed the court that 11 notifications had been submitted in the case so far.

The court then adjourned the hearing till August 7.

Earlier, on July 21, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) issued a 'red notice' for Ishaq Dar to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol). The sources added that the Interpol has been requested to assist in bringing back Dar to Pakistan to face the corruption case against him.

Moreover, prior to that, the former finance minister is allegedly involved in possessing assets beyond means.

A reference has been filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Ishaq Dar following the Supreme Court's July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case.

Dar had earlier been declared a proclaimed offender by the accountability court due to his continuous absence from the proceedings.
