KARACHI - Provincial Government has decided to establish active Constabulary to maintain law and order in the province, reliable sources told The Nation on Sunday. According to the sources, Proposal has been sent to the federal government along with the proposed budget for the establishment of Constabulary. Sources pointed out that Punjab and NWFP Constabularies were already working and these forces often join hands to maintain law and order. Keeping in view the performance of the constabularies of two provinces, Sindh government too has decided to opt for it to control law and order situation in a better manner. It has been pointed out through a letter written to the federal government that Rs 1.5 billion would be required to set-up Constabulary force in the province. Around 15,000 new cops would be recruited for the Constabulary and in this regard, Home Department had sent a complete proposal to the federal government. Planning and Development also approved the scheme that had been sent to the federal government, Central Development Working Party and Executive Committee of the National Economics Council for formal approval. It is worthy of mention that maintaining law and order situation in the province has become a challenge for the provincial government. The ongoing riots and killings have created panic among the people. During last three days, tension and panic is increasing in Karachi due to various incidents of killings, gun battles, burning of shops, etc. Sources appealed that the federal government should immediately approve the proposals made by provincial government for the maintenance of law and order situation in the generally in the country and particularly in the province that has been trapped by the cruel and anti Pakistan forces for their cheap interests.
