LAHORE - Eidul Azha was celebrated in the country with great religious fervour and enthusiasm. The holy festival marking the sacrificial rites in footprints and commemoration of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS) as well as in line with the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) followed by Haj, the believers offered in sacrifice hundreds of thousands of animals on the occasion. Millions of animals including cows, goats and camels were brought to the cities and towns for sale which drew buyers despite inflation and price-hike. There was no let up in the purchase of animals for the holy ritual nor there was any respite in the enthusiasm to celebrate the Eid in a befitting manner. The people offered Eid prayers at mosques and open grounds and exchanged greetings with their relatives, friends and neighbours. They also sought forgiveness from Allah of their sins and prayed for the solidarity and integrity of the country and progress of the nation. As a whole the Eid days were safe and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the country. The Lahorites celebrated the Eid with religious zeal and fervour by sacrificing animals to earn blessings of Allah. The believers thronged mosques, eidgahs and imambargahs to offer Eid prayers at over 500 places in the City. In their supplications they renewed pledge to work for the national solidarity, integrity and prosperity of the country. As usual the biggest Eid congregation in the City was held at historic Badshahi Mosque, where Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, and other prominent personalities beside a large number of people offered the Eid prayers. Eid congregations were also held at Data Darbar Mosque, Masjid Wazir Khan, Jamia Masjaid Mian Mir, Neela Gumbad, Suneri Masjid, Jamia Mosque Minhaj-ul-Quran, Jamiatul Muntazar, Bagh-e-Jinnah, Masjid-e-Shohada, Karbala Gamay Shah, Defence, Thokar Niaz Beg Islampura and hundreds of other mosques. The faithful offered special prayers for the liberation of occupied Muslim territories including the Kashmir and Palestine. Ulema and khateebs delivered special sermons to highlight the significance of the day and called upon the Muslims to follow the teachings of Islam. Special arrangements were made within premises of all jails across the province including Lahore for Eid prayers. Pakistan Television Corporation, Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation and private TV channels and radio also aired special programmes while newspapers published special Eid supplements.
