ISLAMABAD President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday made a telephone call to Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif, once again giving him assurance on constitutional reforms and implementation on Charter of Democracy besides extending Eid greetings. The presidential spokesman, confirming the telephonic contact, said that both the leaders have exchanged views on the national political scenario. The two leaders also discussed the political situation and agreed for enforcement of the Constitution for political stability and economic development of the country. However, sources privy to the developments taking place behind the curtain informed TheNation that since their last meeting, it was the third or fourth telephonic contact between the two leaders and they were busy working out the future roadmap of national politics. The sources further said that soon after the retreat of the Government on National Reconciliation Ordinance, courtesy its coalition partners, President Asif Ali Zardari changed his strategy and took a number of steps to win over the confidence of PML(N) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif who had played a major part in steering the country out of a political mess earier. The sources also said that it was the silent understanding between President Zardari and Mian Nawaz Sharif that the former came out of the pressure politics of Muttahida Qoumi Movement (MQM). The sources further informed that it was agreed between the two sides to finish with the constitutional reforms agenda before the end of the year and the package would be tabled before the Parliament most likely in the second half of December. The sources also said that now both President Zardari and PML(N) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif were on one page vis--vis the implementation of Charter of Democracy in true letter and spirit. The sources added that it was due to this comfort between the two major political parties in the country that Pakistan Peoples Party had come out with scathing criticism on the leadership of MQM and the way they had ditched the Government on a number of occasion. The sources confided that PPP Co-Chairman had the full support of PML(N) in its pursuits against MQM. Political analysts believe that in days to come, the relations between PPP and MQM would further deteriorate despite the statements of reconciliation being issued by President Zardari and MQM Quaid Altaf Hussain.
