Women and police service

The role of women police officers within the police service has been limited and even after the establishment of women police stations, they have not been provided with the resources and facilities, so they can perform at their best capacity. It has also been observed that many of the seats reserved for women officers remain vacant due to social taboos surrounding female police officers. Females are neither encouraged to join the police service nor they prefer the service, again due to social factors. As half of our population consists of females, it is imperative that their representation in the police service should be increased. HASSAN BASHIR, Islamabad, November 30.
