OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI) with the support of UNDP organized an advocacy workshop particularly with representatives of media to forward the agenda of reforms in gender legal framework for the elimination of violence to develop consensus on the topic. In workshop almost 35 representatives from media participated and shared their views on subject matter. Main objective of workshop was to pursue the civil society in favor of gender sensitive reforms in legal framework that is deficient to provide justice for the victim of gender based violence and lacks the mechanism to protect the women from structural bigotry embedded in cultural milieu. In the mentioned workshop findings of KAP research study from four districts of Punjab was shared with participants which depicted that domestic violence is entrenched in the society and cases of violence are neither reported to police and nor are referred to lawyers. Based on the research recommendations a Policy Brief was shared by advocate Shamim Ur Rehman with participants to draw their attention towards restructuring of system for maximum protection of women.
