Dy PM flays CM for ‘shelving' WIC project

WAZIRABAD -  Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Friday criticised the Punjab government for shelving the Wazirabad Institute of Cardiology project worth Rs2 billion, saying that his government had spent Rs420 million on the construction project.
He was talking to the media during his visit to the WIC. He said that 10 million people had been deprived of the basic facilety. Pervaiz Elahi said that the hospital could have been made functional with minor expense.
"I could launch the project in Gujrat but we preferred a huge population of 10 million people and selected the site in Wazirabad which is a central place in Gujranwala Division and approachable in one hour from its surrounding areas. Moreover, we launched another project of express way from Sialkot and other adjacent," he said.
"Heart patients are facing a great deal of trouble due to rigidness of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. Patients cannot reach Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore in time and succumb to heart attack. We started three cardiology centre projects in Multan, Faisalabad and Wazirabad but the WIC has been converted into a cattle den," he said.
During the deputy prime minister's visit, a number of buffaloes were present in the premises of WIC building and being driven out of the building.
