LAHORE - PML-N senior leader MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif has resigned as Punjab Sports Board (PSB) chairman.

In his resignation Hamza cited personal reason yet the sources said his resignation came after the election commission restrained him from addressing the public meetings in the constituencies where by-elections were being held while holding the public office.

The election commission through a notification had restrained Hazma from addressing the public meeting in Narowal and Gujranwala on Friday but Hamza informed the Commission that he resigned from the office last evening and sent a copy of the same to the office.

It was also informed to the commission that the Punjab government accepted his resignation forthwith, sources added.

The appointment of the new Chairman would be made soon, sources said while holding former cricketer Aamer Sohail, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Board, as a strong contender for this office.

Hamza was due to preside over the elections public meetings for the PML-N candidates namely Dr Naimat Ali Javed PP-133, Narowal, and Muhammad Nawaz Chouhan, PP-92, Gujranwala.
