PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said that both the province and Fata offer tremendous opportunities for investment in every sector of economy, with promising prospects for further development and flourishment of businesses and the Chinese investors will also be welcomed to launch entrepreneurships.

Talking to the visiting President of Chinese Investment Corporation, Mr Gao Xiqing who accompanied by a seven member delegation of Chinese investors called on him at Governor’s House, Nathiagali, a famous tourism resort of the country on Friday, the Governor also highly appreciated the enthusiastic approach of the distinguished guests and stressed the need to develop working mechanism in shape of coordination groups to ensure materialization of the proposals.  

A delegation of leading industrialists from the province and Fata, led by the President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Dr Muhammad Yousaf Sarwar also participated the meeting which also comprised of a former President of the Chamber, Afan Aziz, Amer Farooq Khan, Raza Quli Khan and Khalid Quli Khan.

Prospects for hydropower generation, exploration, processing and development of minerals wealth including oil and promotion of automobile industries were the focal points of discussion.

Additional Chief Secretary, Fata, Dr Tashfin Khan and the Chairman, Sarhad Development, Authority, Waqar Ayub were also present on this occasion and briefed the delegates in this respect.

On the occasion, President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Yousaf Sarwar and his colleagues while welcoming the delegates also highlighted their experiences especially stressed launching joint investment in hydel power generation, mineral development and promotion of automobile sectors.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tashfin Khan, Additional Chief Secretary, Fata and Waqar Ayub, Chairman, Sarhad Development Authority while briefing the participants about prospects for launching entrepreneurships said that in the back drop of severe shortage of electricity, both the province and Fata offer tremendous opportunities for hydel power generation. 

Meanwhile, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade (KP-BOIT) to promote investment and trade in the province.

According to a notification issued to this effect, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be patron-in-chief and chairperson of the board while its vice chairman will be from private sector. Its other members will include Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Finance Secretary Industries, one member each from four regions i.e.

Peshawar region including Mardan, Kohat, DI Khan Region including Bannu division, Malakand division and Hazara division.

Moreover four representative from different clusters of the economy i.e. Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock, Poultry and honey-bee farming, Mines and minerals, Minerals Development, Energy and Power, Construction, Tourism & Hotels, Transportation & Communication, Education and Health Services and Two representative will include from Fata.

The functions of the KPBOIT are to provide a proactive one-window operation facility to investors in the province also to identify the investment opportunities in the areas of Hydel-Power, Mining, Oil & Gas, Fruits & Vegetables, and Tourism Sectors to investors, both local and foreign.

The BOIT will develop Public-Private Partnership models in various sectors of the economy and to guide and advise the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on matters related to investment. To plan, organise and host conferences, seminars, exhibitions, conceptualisation of plan and implement marketing, image building will also include in the functions of BOIT.

The purpose of the establishment of the board of investment at this point in time is to put in place a forum ready to guide and assist the investors when the security situation in the province improves, hopefully in the near future. This initiative of the government will help to promote investment in all over the province and it will become useful source in elimination of unemployment in the province.
