LAHORE - The Lahore High Court on Friday sought a reply from the provincial government on two writ petitions seeking regularisation of contractual employees of the Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Pida) under the court order.

Justice Muhammad Khalid Mahmood Khan directed the provincial government to submit the reply until December 13. The petitions have been moved by more than 140 Pida employees seeking regularisation of their services.

They said the LHC had ordered the provincial government to regularise within three months the services of all contractual employees. But, the government had not implemented the court orders, they added. They pointed out the Punjab chief secretary under his chairmanship formed a committee that refused to implement the judicial orders. The services of PIDA employees had been regularised according to the two notifications issued by the Punjab government in 2009 and 2010, making permanent all contractual employees of different departments of the province, the petitioners cited.
