WASHINGTON  - Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh has discussed ways to support Pakistan’s economic development with US Deputy Treasury Secretary Neal Wolin.

The two countries are holding Economic Working Group meetings in Washington as part of the wide-ranging partnership. Dr Sheikh apprised the US official of Islamabad’s efforts towards economic development and sustained growth. US officials say economic cooperation is a key element of the relationship between the two countries.

Pakistan is looking for support of its friends in completing some major development projects like Diamer Basha dam, which are expected to significantly help the country in overcoming its water and energy shortages.

The finance minister is leading a team of top managers to Economic Working Group meetings with US officials. The delegation comprises Minister of State Saleem Mandviwalla, Finance Secretary Wajid Rana, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Ali Arshad Hakim and Governor State Bank of Pakistan Yasin Anwar.
