KARACHI - At least eight people including four gangsters from Lyari were gunned down in the provincial metropolis on Sunday.

A man was killed and three others including a woman wounded over a petty dispute during a dog-fighting show here in the limits of Nazimabad Police Station. Police said youngsters, during a dog-fighting show at Parda Park Nazimabad area, started brawl over some petty issue. The fight forced the the parents of the young boys to interfere and father of a boy namely Irshad pulled out his pistol and started firing which injured four people including his 14 years old son Sumair who sustained critical wounds.

Another teenager Umair Iqbal and his mother Musarat Iqbal also sustained wounds. Police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, besides arresting Irshad. Later, a victim of the firing succumbed to his injuries. Police handed over the body to family after autopsy and registered a case into the incident. Further investigation was underway.

In another incident of firing, gunmen barged into the house and sprayed bullets which left a father and his son dead at Janjal Goth in the jurisdiction of Gulshan-e-Mymar Police Station. Police said 50-year-old Muhammad Arif, his son Muhammad Sufyan, 18, hailing from Waziristan were at their home when three gunmen barged into the house and sprayed bullets. Assailants managed to flee after committing the crime while victims were shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced them dead. Police suspect personal enmity behind double murder. The bodies were handed over to family after autopsy.

Separately, Rizvia police recovered a body with torture marks from Lyari riverbed. Police said locals informed them about the body lying at riverbed. Police shifted the body to morgue for identification after autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said according to doctors the body was almost five days old and no identification clue was found from the deceased.

Meanwhile, Lyari remained tense on Sunday and four more gangsters were killed in a gun battle between gangs and also with the law enforcers.

Two of the gangsters were shot dead during exchange of fire between the rival gangs while two others were gunned down in alleged encounters with law enforcers.

Two suspected gangsters were killed during an armed clash between the operatives of Uzair Baloch and Baba Ladla groups.

A fierce clash occurred at Jhat Pat Market in the limits of Kalakot Police Station of Lyari where Ladla Gang operatives surrounded Qadir building to attack the members of rival gang.

The Jhat Pat Market area is considered a stronghold of Uzair Baloch. The Uzair group reacted strongly and during the heavy gunfire two gangsters were killed, said SSP Sheeraz Nazeer. The bodies of the killed gangsters were later shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsy where they were identified as Usman Baloch and Shan alias Shani. SSP Nazeer said that both the killed gangsters were associated with the Uzair Baloch Group and were killed when the members of Baba Ladla Group attacked the hideout of Uzair Baloch operatives. Followed the killing of two gangsters tension escalated in various parts of Lyari particularly in Kalakot and Baghdadi areas where intermittent firing continued and routine and commercial activities were suspended.

Police and Rangers got inside the troubled area to ease the tension while two gangsters affiliated with Ladla Gang were killed during encounters with security forces.

According to Rangers spokesperson, the force conducted intelligence-driven targeted operations to hunt down leaders or high profile criminals of Lyari gang war. He said during the targeted raid at Ali Muhammad Muhalla of Lyari’s Baghdadi area, a wanted criminal of Baba Ladla group was killed who was later identified as Bilal.

Rangers spokesperson said that the killed gangster was involved in 13 murder cases. He was also wanted by police in various cases of land or house grabbing and rapes. The Rangers also recovered weapons from his possession.

Earlier, another suspected gangster was killed during an exchange of fire with the police and Rangers in Lyari. The encounter took place during a joint operation in which one suspected gangster was killed. The killed gangster was later identified as Shoaib alias Rambo. SSP Sheeraz Nazeer said the killed gangster was associated with the Faisal Pathan faction of Uzair Baloch Group while a hand grenade and a pistol were also recovered from his possession.

Separately, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) police claimed to have apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in a bank robbery. The arrested suspects were identified as Sohail and Bilal. Weapons were also recovered from their possession. SIU chief SP Farooq Awan said that they were involved in Bank Al-Falah’s Ferozabad branch robbery in 2013.

“Their two comrades had already been killed by police in Soldier Bazaar area when they were trying to escape after robbing a bank,” SP Awan explained. He said that the gang was also involved in various cases of kidnapping and looting gold while further investigation was underway.
