Rawalpindi - A poor labourer was gunned down allegedly by a servant of a notorious criminal and land grabber on land dispute here at Mohalla Hajian within the limits of Police Station Race Course on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Jumma Khan. Police filed a murder case and started investigation.

According to Station House Officer Malik Yousaf, a citizen Tavir appeared before police and lodged a complaint that he hired a labourer namely Jumma Khan for digging on his piece of land in Mohalla Hajian. He added that Jumma was busy in his work when a man Toora Khan, the accomplice of Arshad Langra, arrived and opened fire on him. As a result, Jumma sustained bullet injuries. The SHO added that the injured was shifted to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. A murder case was field while police conducting raids to arrest the killer.

On a query, the SHO replied, “The killer is told to be the man of notorious criminal Arshad Langra, who is also accused in a murder case.” On the other hand, PML-N MNA from NA-54 Malik Abrar Ahmed expressed his deep concern over surge in crime rate in Rawalpindi cantonment. He, while talking to The Nation, said that the land mafia and murderers were roaming freely after committing crimes but police were not nabbing them.

“The intruders and land mafia have killed many people in one week but police have failed to arrest even a single criminal which is an ample proof of negligence and failure of police,” Ahmed added. He asked regional police officer and city police officer to take notice of the increasing incidents of murders and occupation on lands by land mafia.
