GUJRANWALA - The participants of PTI rally were “welcomed” with eggs and tomatoes pelting en route Islamabad here at Pind Bypass road on Sunday.

According to details, the participants of the PTI rally comprising workers, activities and leaders were on the way to Islamabad. When the rally, led by PTI Punjab President Ijaz Chaudhry, reached Pindi Bypass Gujranwala when some unidentified persons started pelting eggs and tomatoes on the participants. This created panic in the rally and the PTI workers started slogans against the government. In the meanwhile, one the accused also caught by the angry PTI workers and beaten him severely. He, however, managed to escape the clutches of the PTI workers.

JUI-F PROTEST: Scores of JUI-F workers staged a demonstration against the brutal murder of the party Sindh general secretary Dr Kahlid Soomro. The protesters burnt tyres and blocked GT road which shuddered traffic from and to Islamabad to a halt. After receiving information, a large number of police personnel rushed to the spot to control the situation. Later, after successful dialogue, the protesters dispersed peacefully.

‘Dacoit’ killed, passerby

Staff Reporter Ellah Abad ads: A dacoit was killed by the firing of his own accomplices while a passerby injured in a shootout with police here the other night.

According to details, four armed dacoits had set up a picket on Kanganpur Road near graveyard to loot passengers. Meanwhile, someone informed the police about the dacoits through helpline 15. At which Ellahabad Police SHO ordered SI Haji Basheer Ahmad who was on patrol to reach the scene.

As soon as, the SI along with other policemen reached the spot, the bandits started firing on them. As a result a passerby identified as Muhammad Ismail received a bullet in the leg while a dacoit also got bullets fired by his accomplices and died instantly. In the meanwhile, his other accomplices fled the scene.

According to police, before death the dacoit disclosed the name of his ringleader Muhammad Arif Meo, a resident of Akikay. Later the deceased dacoit was identified as Awais, son of Hashim, a retired policeman and a resident of Hunjray Kalan. The injured was rushed to nearby hospital. The police registered an FIR and started investigation.
