Baby girl abandoned

LAHORE - An unidentified woman yesterday abandoned a one-month baby girl at Lahore General Hospital. The hospital administration has taken the baby into custody and admitted her in the Nursery Ward.
The woman entered Surgical Emergency Ward in the afternoon and put the baby on a bed. She went out, saying she was going to get a token. But even after one hour, she did not come back on which the administration was informed about the incident.
Principal PGMI/LGH Prof Khalid Mahmood directed doctors on duty to admit the baby at Nursery Ward. Issueless couples approached the administration for adopting the baby but the principal said that the decision would be taken according to law.
Addicts found dead: Three people were discovered dead from different parts of the provincial metropolis in the morning.
A police investigator said that a 40-year-old man was found dead near a shrine in Lorry Adda police precincts while another two men, aged 35 and 40, were recovered dead from Data Darbar locality.
All the three bodies, unidentified so far, were moved to the morgue for autopsy. Investigators say apparently the dead were drug addicts. The police are investigating the deaths.

Investigators said three motorcyclists were fleeing after looting a citizen, Bilal, in Sabzazar when they started chasing the bandits.
Another police patrol signaled them to stop at a picket near Bakkar Mandi but they started firing on the policemen. The cops also retaliated. As a result, one of the robbers was shot and killed while his two accomplices fled on the motorcycle. The body was moved to the morgue for an autopsy.
Police were yet to ascertain identity of the dead. Further investigation was underway.
smugglers arrested: Police thwarted a weapon smuggling attempt by arresting five suspects during a raid in Kahna. Cops also seized 30 pistols, six repeater-guns, and 16,500 bullets.
“We arrested five suspects as they tried to enter Lahore to smuggle arms and bullets stashed inside two vehicles. The operation was conducted at the Defense Road in Kahna,” police officer Mustansir Feroz told reporters at a news conference.
The SP Model Town police division further said the special police teams carried out the operation on a tip-off. Police identified the suspects as Nasir Mahmood, Naeem, Ameer Saeed, Muhammad Yousaf, and Haji Irshad.
According to the police, the smugglers stashed the weapons in two cars in Peshawar and they were stopped on the edge of Lahore as they tried to enter the provincial capital. Further investigations were underway.
