Change has come?

Time now for Obama to fulfill the promises he had made with the whole world. The US and whole world wait for real change not only in US but in the whole world. The civilized world is fed up with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq which President Bush and his neo-cons had waged on the false pretext of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and terrorism for their own vested interests. Both these allegations proved false because neither WMD were found nor terrorism ended and the innocent people of Iraq and Afghanistan fell victims to these wars. President Obama has promised to withdraw U.S troops from Iraq and pay full attention to Afghanistan. The Palestine problem also needs immediate attention of President Obama. The recent Israeli aggression against innocent Palestinians has endangered the world peace. This problem demands a two-state solution and complete withdrawal of Israel to its pre-1967 position. Palestinian people deserve to have a sovereign state of their own according to the UN charter. The solution of this problem will helpful in achieving world peace. Pak-India relations too are not just important for this region but also for the whole world. A tense environment in the region will greatly affect the US efforts in the war against terrorism. President Obama has also talked about Kashmir and the appointment of Bill Clinton as special representative on Kashmir , a good step in the right direction. -BASHIR HUSSAIN AZAD, Chitral, via e-mail, January 18.
