LAHORE - Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan has said the Pakistan Muslim League-N wants continuation of its coalition with the PPP in the Punjab, but will not compromise on its principled stand on restoration of the judiciary. In a press briefing at Punjab Assembly here on Saturday, he said both the major coalition parties (N-League and PPP) were very comfortable with each other and in harmony on all important matters while the Punjab Governor's role in this regard in regrettable. To a question, Rana Sana Ullah said the N-League would extend cooperation to lawyers in the Long March on March 9, which was their (lawyers') democratic right. "The PML-N has pledged to the nation for restoring the judiciary, and the support to the lawyers is partly the actualisation of that promise," he said. To another question about Sharif brothers' cases in the Supreme Court, he said that N-League was all set to respond actively to any otherwise decision in this regard. The Minister said the 11th session of the Punjab Assembly would continue for two weeks after its first day on February 2. "It will be a pre-budget session and all the MPAs will be given ample opportunity to give their suggestions," he said, adding that the relevant officers of the Finance Department and Planning and Development would be sitting in the officers gallery to note their recommendations to consider these, while preparing the budget. "This is for the first time in the history of the Punjab Assembly that a pre-budget session will be held," he said. In the session, he said, two bills - Ali Institute of Education Bill 2009 and Maintenance of Public Peace Ordinance 2009 - would be tabled in the House for their passage. "While another three bills will be laid in the House, which included the Punjab Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, The Bank of Punjab (Amendment) Bill and Punjab General Provident Investment Bill," he added. Rana Sana said 11 bills were in the pipeline to be laid in the House. "One of these bills is Punjab Medical and Public Health (Amendment) Bill under which maximum autonomy would be given to public health institutions, besides involving the Public Service Commission in the appointment process of the doctors in the public hospitals. Another bill the Punjab Property and Occupants Bill, will ensure ownership rights to 100,000 families of the peasants," he said, adding that the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Bill would ensure completion of all the process of land acquisition within two-and-a-half years. "The House will also make amendments in the relevant provisions of the Rules of Procedure of the Business of the House 1997 to ensure that response to any summery, forwarded to the governor, parliamentary secretaries or any officers of the departments, is received within a reasonable time period," said Rana Sana further adding that the government would also hold parliamentary debate on law and order situation in the province. "The Governor should be sending the summary back as soon as possible instead of remaining of 'official' visits," said Rana Sana while suggesting President Asif Ali Zardari that a sober person should be appointed as Governor Punjab.
