PESHAWAR - At least six persons including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rasheed Khan and four policemen were killed and 18 others got injured in two bomb blasts here at Taj Abad and Qamardin Garhi areas on Ring Road and Kohat Road respectively on Monday. Police sources said that first blast was a suicide one. It occurred when a suicide bomber struck himself with the vehicle of DSP Rasheed Khan near Garhi Qamardin area on Kohat Road at 09:20 a.m. The suicide attack resulted in killings of DSP Rasheed Khan, his driver Amin Jan, constable Sher Rahman and one Taxi driver Nowshad Ahmad son of Mohammad Irshad. The blast badly damaged the police vehicle and a car parked near the site, while the body parts of the suicide bomber were found a few meters away from the site. The second blast occurred at 12:10 p.m. when a remote-controlled device hit a police mobile in Taj Abad area in the jurisdiction of Peshtahra Police Station. Two policemen were killed while three others were injured in the blast. Soon after the blasts, Edhi ambulances and rescue teams rushed towards the sites and shifted the injured and dead to hospitals. A large number of policemen and officials of bomb disposal squad rushed towards the site and cordoned off the area. Police took the legs and head of the suicide bomber in their custody and started investigations. Talking to journalists Inspector General Bomb Disposal Squad, Shafqat Malik, said that around seven kilograms explosive material was used in the first suicide blast. He said that the suicide bomber was waiting for DSP Rasheeed Khan and when his vehicle reached near the flyover intersection, the bomber blew up his explosives-laden vest. Meanwhile, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan, Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain and Senior Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour strongly condemned the bomb blast and termed it a coward act of terrorism. They expressed profound grief and sorrow over the incidents. They said that regular attacks on security personnel augmented the fact that terrorists considered security personnel as great hurdle in the way of their evil designs. It is pertinent to mention here that militants had earlier twice attempted on the life of DSP Raheed Khan in Gulbahar area of Peshawar.
