LAHORE - The four-day Royal Palm floodlit Cricket Tournament endorsed and supported by Coke, GNC and FR Cables will commence on Tuesday (today) here at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club. From the very initial moments, some outstanding talent will be on display as cricketing fever builds up and the 16 contesting teams wildly supported by a large number of friends and families try to outdo each other through sheer performance with the bat, the ball and fitness oriented high class fielding. As per format of the tournament, the competition will be on knockout basis with 16 teams comprising six players each playing the qualifying rounds on first and second February and the winners becoming eligible for the quarter-finals on Thursday (February 3). Each innings will be over six overs and the each bowler cannot bowl more than two overs which makes strategising a real test for the captains and provides the eager fans with some crisp and joy filled moments. Former cricketing great Ijaz Ahmed will be there and also participating are quite a few other notable cricketers, besides many cricketers with capacity to show flair in batting and some remarkable spin bowling. Lighting arrangements are excellent and the organisers expect a big turnout of cheering cricket watchers. The arrangements have been made to provide ball by ball scores. The tournament will start each day at 6 pm and the semi-finals and final will be played on Friday (February 4). AA Rehman in semis Meanwhile, Akhter Abdul Rehman Club has moved to the semi-final of the 26th M Yaseen Akhter Memorial Cricket Tournament after outplaying Apollo Club by seven wickets in the quarters at Iqbal Park ground. Apollo Club: 112 all out in 19.2 overs (Aleem 35, Salman 15, Tajamal Ch 4/19, Mehran 3/18). AA Rehman: 116/3 in 16.2 overs (Tajamal Ch 27, Imran Butt 52, Salman 1/19, Asif 1/21).
