ANISUDDIN KHAN KARACHI - The NJI National Snooker Championship began here with two major upsets when former world champion Muhammad Yousuf and former national champion Khurram Agha suffered defeat in the opening league round of the 16-player championship here on Monday at Karachi Gymkhana Hall. Both the players, who moved to the final round qualifying from the Sindh Championship were expected to find going smooth but they lost against little opponents. Imran Qamar of Punjab accounted for veteran Muhammad Yousuf in a tense match that ended after Imran took the last and the seventh frame 76-46. Scores in favour of Imran was 19-62, 40-51, 54-25, 50-11, 77-40, 15-56, 76-46. Khurram Agha also lost by four frames to three and once again the seventh frame proved crucial between victory and defeat. Mohammad Asif of Punjab took the last frame with a commanding 86-29 lead against Khurram. The score in favour of M Asif was 70-40, 65-32, 30-75, 20-61, 75-19, 18-69, 84-29. New Jubilee Insurance has taken up the challenge to financially support a number of major events organised by the PBSA. The national championship was brought forward by a month after the PBSA felt that by hosting the event early, it would have sufficient time to train Pakistani team for a number of events.
