RAWALPINDI - A woman was murdered on Friday by shooting in the head here at Azizabad area by two assailants believed to be hired by her in-laws to settle the family dispute that triggered in United States of America (USA).
The body of the deceased, identified as Safia Begum wife of Zafar Iqbal, was moved to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital by police and Rescue 1122 for autopsy. A murder case was filed against the husband (settled in America) and three of his brothers (one of them is also in America) on the complaint of the deceased's brother.
According to police investigators, the incident took place at 10:00am at the stairs of Safia Begum's house when she was going upstairs after taking milk from the milkman.
All of a sudden two killers who arrived on a motorbike caught Safia and fired a bullet into her head with a pistol at point blank range killing her on the spot, the investigators added. The killers managed to escape from the scene, they added.
On calling, a police party rushed to the crime scene, recovered the dead body and shifted it to DHQ for autopsy.
Station House Officer (SHO) Raja Musadiq, when contacted, confirmed the incident saying on the complaint of deceased's brother Sobidar Hassan Akhter, a murder case was filed against Safia's husband Zafar Iqbal and his three brothers Khalid Muhammad, Zahar Iqbal and Tahir Iqbal. He added that Zafar and Khalid were residing in the USA.
Sharing the contents of the application, the SHO said that Hassan stated that his nephew Ali Sufian got married with her cousin Nadia, daughter of Khalid Mehmood, and started living in USA. Later, differences emerged between the couple and Ali divorced Nadia.
This annoyed Safia's in-laws who accused her of forcing her son to divorce his wife, Hassan mentioned. He further stated that Azhar and Tahir murdered his sister Safia on the nod of her husband Zafar and his brother Khalid Muhammad living in USA. He pleaded police to book the accused and provide him with justice. Police launched investigation into the murder after filing a case and would soon arrest the killers, the SHO said.
On the other hand, an unidentified attacker opened indiscriminate firing on a 31-years-old dry fruit seller behind the UP Church, injuring him critically. After the attack, the culprit managed to escape from the scene while the maimed was shifted to DHQ, where he was identified as Najib Khan son of Ghalib Khan, hails from Afghanistan and staying at Haji Bus Terminal, Peshawar.

two hotels
Police searched 139 houses and two hotels during a search operation in the limits of Potohar Division, informed police spokesman on Friday.
Police have pulled socks up to curb the growing incidents of terrorism and laid down certain rules for stay of guests in hotels and tenants in rented houses following the instruction of acting Regional Police Officer (RPO)/City Police Officer (CPO) Akhter Umar Hayyat Lalayka, the spokesman added.
According to him, police, under the surveillance of SSP (Operations) Mian Maqbool, conducted search of 130 houses and two hotels in the limits of police stations Race Course, Saddar Wah and Wah Cannt and collected proper record of tenants and guests.
Meanwhile, SSP (Operations) Mian Maqbool, taking notice on public complaints regarding police injustice on pickets, paid a surprise visit of various police check-posts and pickets established on GT Road and suspended a large number of cops on account of corruption, negligence and teasing public without any reason.
Those who were suspended by SSP (Operations) Mian Maqbool, included ASI Muhammad Usman, Head Constable Azhar, constables Farhat Mehmood, Navid Anjum, Muhammad Ishtiaq, Aqil Haider and Asad Nadeem, posted at police pickets Mandra and Massa Kaswal. SSP warned all the police cops posted on pickets to avoid teasing people without any reasons or else strict action would be taken against them.
