LONDON - A Naib Subedar , who has been facing military trial over corruption charges and was not shifted to hospital for medical treatment despite the court orders, has filed a contempt petition against the high-ups, reported BBC on Friday.
Referring to Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s trial , Muhammad Ilyas through his lawyer stated that the former military chief has been facing charges of abrogating the constitution and has been kept in hospital despite repeated summons by the court.
“But a military man accused of corruption is not being provided medical facilities for his cardiac arrest despite the court orders,” Ilyas said referring to his ailment.
He further stated that this contradiction is an ample example of dual standards of laws for the poor and rich.
It is pertinent to mention here that Musharraf, heading to the court to face treason case against him, reached a military hospital some days ago.
Ilyas submitted his initial medical report in the Supreme Court on Friday, stating that he should be admitted to hospital for treatment . He also submitted in the SC the court orders which directed ambulance service and medical staff to be provided to him on immediate basis.
He asked the contempt proceedings to be initiated against Rawalpindi corps commander for violating the court orders.
Ilyas hailing from Pak Army’s Medical Corps was arrested from Quetta for having links with extremists four years ago. However after two years, he was booked in a corruption case which is still pending in a military court.
