CHARSADDA: The Bacha Khan University (BKU) administration today decided to close the varsity till deployment of personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) on the premises.

A meeting of faculty and administration held with Vice Chancellor Fazal Raheem Marwat in the chair decided that the university would not be opened till the deployment of FC.

The meeting also rejected the report of an investigation committee formed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to probe January 20 BKU terror attack, holding the VC and the security in-charge responsible for the attack

Supporters of the VC latter told media-persons that neither the VC would resign nor he would be sacked.

The meeting vowed to defend the Vice Chancellor in case the authorities attempt to sack him. The participants demanded formation of a judicial commission to review the issue.

It may be noted that investigation committee in its report released on Jan 30, also noted that as many as eight guards were absent from their duties when attackers stormed the university taking advantage of dense fog. Some 21 persons were killed in the attack.

The committee also noted that the university administration had not informed the district administration about special routine followed on the day of attack pertaining to anniversary of Bacha Khan. At least 19 security guards were appointed around the university campus and four of them were absent while four other ran away after hearing gun fire.

The report stated that the VC had left the security responsibility with a PhD professor without discussing the matter with the syndicate. Reportedly, the professor was not trained to deal with the given job.

The committee had recommended relieving Vice Chancellor Marwat and security in-charge Ashfaq Ahmed of their services, besides hiring of retired security personnel for guarding duty on daily-wage basis.
