Supreme Court has barred Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi for holding public office for five years.
The court also sentenced him for one month and fined him of Rs. 50,000. Police arrested the former senator from court.
The court rejected Hashmi's plea seeking unconditional pardon. Three-member bench headed by Justice Saeed Khosa read the verdict.
The bench gave the verdict by 2-1 as Justice Dost Muhammad gave the verdict against disqualification.
After verdict of Supreme Court, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will soon de-notify him from the Senate.
Supreme Court took suo moto notice over contempt of court speech of Nehal Hashmi in which he threatened judiciary and members of JIT.
During Panama case saga, while addressing a public gathering, Hashmi said that people who are investigating and who have investigated Nawaz Sharif and his family must remember that they will retire one day.
“Remember, you are in service now but you will retire one day, we will make it hard for you and your family to live in Pakistan,” he said.
Apparently referring to JIT members and Supreme Court judges , the senator said that these people are “irritating’ Nawaz Sharif, people of Pakistan will avenge it.
He also targeted PTI chairman Imran Khan stating that house of Sharif family in Model Town is not made by “Jews’ money” or “Jamaima’s wealth”
“It was constructed by hard earned money,” he said.
