SARGODHA - A policeman was gunned down in a shootout with bandits near border of district Jhang in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Police sources informed that Constable Asif Sultan of the Shah Nikdar Police, Sargodha, was on routine patrol with SHO Mohammad Akram. On information, the police team rushed to the site of a robbery near railway crossing at Harianwala village. As they reached the spot, the lawmen came across intense firing by the robber. Resultantly Constable Asif Sultan sustained gunshot wounds and died instantly while the dacoits fled the scene under the cover of darkness.
Meanwhile, Regional Police Officer Dr Akhtar Abbas ordered a thorough investigation the incident and arrest of the runaway dacoits.
Later, funeral for the martyred constable was offered at Zakaullah Shaheed Police Lines. Sargodha DPO Sohail Chaudhry, Khushab DPO Ghulam Jillani Tawana, SP (PTS) Mumtaz Ahmed and a large police officers as well as officials attended funeral.
