KARACHI - Karachi Blues won their opening round match of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy when they defeated Quetta by 10 wickets on the fourth and final day of the competition here at UBL ground on Wednesday. Set to get 99 runs, the home team took just 10.1 overs to reach the target without losing a wicket in its second innings after Quetta second innings folded at 258 runs. Karachi Bleus had scored 289 in the first knock and forced the opponents follow on when they were bowled out for 129 in reply. Quetta batted better in the second knock and was 249 for eight at the close of third days play. When play resumed, Sanullah resumed his innings at unbeaten 22 and Irfan Ismail was six not out. The two started confidently raising hope of good fight back. But soon wickets started tumbling. Sanaullah left after adding two more runs to his total bowled by Baber Rehman and almost shortly afterwards Irfan Ismail also fell to same bowler adding one to his overnight score. Quetta innings terminated at 258 setting home team to get 99 to win. Shadab Kabir and Shahzaib Hasan opened for Karachi to get the target and they achieved it with style without losing their wickets. Shahzaib Hasan was more aggressive of the two. He hit unbeaten 59 in 30 balls innings hitting six fours and three sixes. Shadab Kabir played a more sedate and responsible innings and was not out 35 in 33 balls with five fours when Karachi reached the winning total.
