LAHORE - Inspector General of Police Punjab Shaukat Javed has said that law and order would be maintained at every cost across the province with the cooperation of public representatives, political workers and Ulema-e-Karam to ensure peace and tranquility during the month of Muharram-ul-Haram. According to a handout, he was presiding over a meeting held at DG Khan on Wednesday to review the security arrangements made for Muharram. RPO Mubarak Ali Khan and other senior police officers were also present on the occasion. The IGP said that wall-chalking, distribution of provocative literature, handbills would be banned and added that walk-through gates and metal detectors will be installed at the entry of all religious places. He said that all the districts have been divided into sectors, sub-sectors and control rooms have also been set up there, besides, installation of close circuit cameras at important places. He said that alternate arrangement would be made to provide electricity during 'Majalis' and processions on Muharram-ul-Harram. He said that two check points will be set up at each 'Majlis' and procession while entry of unauthorised persons in 'Majalis', misuse of loud speakers, display of arms and parking of vehicles near 'Majalis' would be completely banned. He said that procession routes would be sealed on Ashura. It was also decided in the meeting that women force would be deputed at women 'Majalis'. The meeting was informed that entry and exit points of all districts are being checked specially during Muharram-ul-Harram. Special police force have also been deputed at all hotels, bus stands, railway stations to check the people in these areas. Police contingents will perform flag march on the occasion. Later, DIG Mubarak Ali Athar told the meeting that 7642 police officials will perform duties in four districts of DG Khan division on Muharram-ul-Harramm. He said that 1297 processions and 3907 'Majalis' would be held in the division while foolproof security arrangements have been made to provide security cover to them.
