LAHORE - PIA had an easy-sailing over Port Qasim to clinch the NBP National Gold Cup Tournament title here at the National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday. PIA banged in three goals with keeping their defences tight enough to not allowing Port Qasim forwards penetrate an inch into the danger zone. Federal minister for industries and textiles Farooq Saeed was the chief guest of the final and gave away the prizes to the winners. Imran Warsi of National Bank was declared the best player of the tournament while Rashid Yaqoob of Port Qasim was the best goal-keeper and Kashif Ali of PIA was the player of the final. The players were awarded Rs 5000 each while the winners PIA received Rs 40,000 and Port Qasim got Rs 20,000. Former Olympian Islahuddin gave Rehan Butt FIH trophy for being named the best player of the year and Rs 50,000 from PHF. PIA was leading the first half by two goals and added another in the second half. Ahsanullah scored the first goal in the 16th minute on a penalty corner while Mukhtar Ahmed doubled the lead in the 22nd minute. Kashif Ali got the third goal for PIA in the 63rd minute on short corner.
